We hope you enjoy it.<\/p>\n<p>There is a two-letter word that perhaps has more meanings than any other two-letter word, and that word is\u00a0<em>up<\/em>. It&#8217;s easy to understand\u00a0<em>up<\/em>, meaning toward the sky or at the top of the list, but when we awaken in the morning, why do we wake\u00a0<em>up<\/em>?<\/p>\n<p>At a meeting, why does a topic come\u00a0<em>up<\/em>?<br \/>\nWhy do we speak\u00a0<em>up<\/em>, why are the officers\u00a0<em>up<\/em>\u00a0for election,<br \/>\nand why is it\u00a0<em>up<\/em>\u00a0to the secretary to write\u00a0<em>up<\/em>\u00a0a report?<\/p>\n<p>We call\u00a0<em>up<\/em>\u00a0our friends.<\/p>\n<p>We brighten\u00a0<em>up<\/em>\u00a0a room\u00a0and polish\u00a0<em>up<\/em>\u00a0the silver.<br \/>\nWe warm\u00a0<em>up<\/em>\u00a0the leftovers\u00a0and clean\u00a0<em>up<\/em>\u00a0the kitchen.<br \/>\nWe lock\u00a0<em>up<\/em>\u00a0the house,\u00a0and some guys fix\u00a0<em>up<\/em>\u00a0the old car.<\/p>\n<p>People stir\u00a0<em>up<\/em>\u00a0trouble,\u00a0line\u00a0<em>up<\/em>\u00a0for tickets,\u00a0work\u00a0<em>up<\/em>\u00a0an appetite,<br \/>\nand think\u00a0<em>up<\/em>\u00a0excuses.<\/p>\n<p>To be dressed is one thing, but to be dressed\u00a0<em>up<\/em>\u00a0is special.<\/p>\n<p>And this\u00a0<em>up<\/em>\u00a0is confusing:<br \/>\na drain must be opened\u00a0<em>up\u00a0<\/em>because it is stopped\u00a0<em>up<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>We open\u00a0<em>up<\/em>\u00a0a store in the morning,\u00a0but we close it\u00a0<em>up<\/em>\u00a0at night.<br \/>\nWe seem to be pretty mixed\u00a0<em>up<\/em>\u00a0about\u00a0<em>up<\/em>!<\/p>\n<p>To be knowledgeable about the proper uses of\u00a0<em>up<\/em>,\u00a0look it\u00a0<em>up<\/em>.<br \/>\nIn a desk-sized dictionary,\u00a0it takes\u00a0<em>up<\/em>\u00a0almost\u00a0one-fourth\u00a0of the page<br \/>\nand can add\u00a0<em>up<\/em>\u00a0to about thirty definitions.<\/p>\n<p>If you are\u00a0<em>up<\/em>\u00a0to it,\u00a0you might try building\u00a0<em>up<\/em>\u00a0a list<br \/>\nof the many ways\u00a0<em>up<\/em>\u00a0is used.<br \/>\nIt will take\u00a0<em>up<\/em>\u00a0a lot of your time,\u00a0but if you don&#8217;t give\u00a0<em>up<\/em>,<br \/>\nyou may wind\u00a0<em>up<\/em>\u00a0with a hundred or more.<\/p>\n<p>When it threatens to rain, we say it is clouding\u00a0<em>up<\/em>.<br \/>\nWhen the sun comes out, we say it is clearing\u00a0<em>up<\/em>.<br \/>\nWhen it rains, it wets\u00a0<em>up<\/em>\u00a0the\u00a0earth.<br \/>\nWhen\u00a0it doesn&#8217;t rain for\u00a0a\u00a0while, things dry\u00a0<em>up<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>One could go on and on, but I&#8217;ll wrap it\u00a0<em>up<\/em>,<br \/>\nfor now my time is\u00a0<em>up<\/em>, so &#8230;\u00a0time to shut\u00a0<em>up<\/em>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We thought we would lighten things\u00a0up\u00a0a bit this week.
