I am deeply saddened to inform you that Tom Stern died last week. He had recently been diagnosed with late-stage cancer.<\/p>\n
Our loyal readers will recognize Mr. Stern as the author of our weekly\u00a0e-newsletter articles and as a co-author of The Blue Book of Grammar and Punctuation<\/em>. He began writing monthly articles for us in late 2012 following the death of GrammarBook.com\u2019s founder and guiding light, Jane Straus. By early 2013 he was writing for us every week.<\/p>\n Mr. Stern did not shy away from controversy and enjoyed stirring the pot. He liked seeing readers\u2019 reactions, which gave him ideas for follow-up\u00a0e-newsletters. He was resolutely dedicated to three things: 1) making each and every weekly e-newsletter interesting and valuable to read, 2) ensuring that our responses to your comments posted on our blog were unassailable, and 3) establishing that the overall quality of the content on our GrammarBook.com website was equal to or better than any other grammar and punctuation website.<\/p>\n To ensure a smooth transition until we can bring a new writer on board who is able to maintain our standards, Mr. Stern provided us with a number of articles for our e-newsletters that will last for several months into the future. We also will rerun some of the most popular instructional articles authored by Jane Straus.<\/p>\n Tom Stern, we\u2019ll miss you. In your memory, we repeat today \u201cConfessions of a Guerilla Grammarian,\u201d which originally appeared on June 29<\/span><\/span> of this year. In my opinion, this article received more positive letters and comments from readers than any other.
